At Peaky Barbers in Woolloongabba, we take pride in the details - precision cuts, warm service, and creating a space where people actually want to spend time. Part of that atmosphere comes from the greenery woven throughout our barbershop.
What started as a simple idea - to make the space feel more alive - has quietly grown into something much more. Now, plants are a key part of the Peaky Barbers vibe. And we've got one of our barbers, Francis, to thank for that

Why Plants? Why Not?
When people walk in the door, we want them to feel relaxed and welcome. Indoor plants help soften the space, bring some calm to the day, and remind us that care matters - whether it's for hair or for the little things that surround us.
Francis, one of our senior barbers, also happens to be a bit of a plant enthusiast. He’s slowly turned the shop into a small urban jungle (the low-maintenance kind), experimenting with what works in our unique space - low light, constant air-con, and the occasional bump from a wandering client.

Low-Light, High-Vibe
Our shop sits on the ground floor of The Drapery on Logan Road. There's a big front window, but thanks to deep eaves and a towering street tree, we get more shade than sun. That’s great for keeping cool, but a challenge for most indoor plants.
Still, we’ve found our groove. Francis installed a grow light in the back corner and rotates the more light-hungry plants closer to the window throughout the week. It’s a small touch, but it makes a big difference.
Our Go-To Plants for Barbershop Life
If you’re ever sitting in the chair and notice the plants behind you, here’s what you’re looking at - each chosen because they’re: tough enough to survive in low light, easy to care for, still look good week after week.
Tree Philodendron – Big leaves, bold presence
Dwarf Umbrella Tree – Cheerful and compact
Spider Plant – Classic and good for air quality
Golden Pothos – Trails down from shelves like green streamers
Devil’s Ivy ‘Marble Queen’ – Adds a splash of white and light
Monstera adansonii – With its signature Swiss cheese holes
Cactus – Low drama, high cool factor
Weeping Fig – Elegant, structured, and old-school
Yes, Francis Takes Them Home in Winter
Barbershops get darker in winter, and our plants feel it too. Francis gives them a seasonal reset - taking them home for better light, repotting, and the occasional water therapy. It’s a little odd seeing them leave in June and return in September, but it’s all part of the ritual.
It’s More Than Just a Haircut
We believe a barbershop should be more than just functional. It should feel like a place you look forward to visiting. A place where the vibe is just right.
Whether it's the timber tones, the quiet buzz of the clippers, or the corner full of greenery, every detail at Peaky Barbers is considered. Because when you feel good in the chair, you carry that confidence out the door.
